SUMMER COUPLES PHOTOSHOOT AT BURNEY FALLS
Last summer, Kristin had agreed to model for me for a lifestyle brand-inspired photoshoot at a swimming hole. We planned the whole thing out — it was going to be on the Yuba River, we’d spend most of the time in the water, and (of course) there would be some cliff-jumping.
However, the week of the shoot, multiple wildfires surrounded the Yuba River area and we decided for everyone’s safety and well-being that it was best to call off the shoot. Naturally, we were sad to have to switch up our plans, but I kept the idea in the back of my mind hoping that, eventually, we could make it happen.
Fast forward a year later — I had another trip on the books for Northern California! With an open day in my schedule, I reached out to her to see if she would be interested in finally bringing the photoshoot idea to life.
This time, instead of going to a NorCal swimming hole, we decided to meet up at a waterfall with special significance to her and her partner — Burney Falls.
Burney Falls
About an hour’s drive Northeast of Redding, California is Burney Falls. Flowing at a height of 129 feet, Burney Falls is the kind of place that leaves you awestruck. The hike to the falls is short — only about a mile round trip. And the reward for your effort makes any discomfort on the hike down (and up) more than worth it.
Since Burney Falls is so wide and covered in lush foliage (and because the water is a bright blue hue) visiting the falls feels like being transported to a tropical landscape. It reminded me so much of some of the waterfalls I’ve hiked to on Maui.
Even from the start of the trail, I could hear the pounding water from the falls. Minutes after starting our hike down to the waterfall, we came across a copper colored snake! It was a sweet welcome to start our evening.
Once we came around a bend in the trail, I got my first glimpse of the waterfalls.
I felt like the photos I had seen barely did them justice. Dappled light decorated the boulders along the shoreline while towering pines framed the falls and pool. The greens and blues and warm tones of the trees created a picturesque landscape you couldn’t help but stare at, awestruck.
I sent Kristin and Austin ahead to get some shots of them from above and took a moment to myself to soak in the view. There’s just a magical quality to waterfalls that’s hard to match. Here are some photos from our time there together that try to capture that magic.

Anna Claire Beasley is an adventurous wedding, elopement, + portrait photographer based out of Texas. She travels for the majority of all of her sessions, from across Texas, to New Mexico, California, Oregon, Arizona, Utah, Hawaii, and anywhere else there’s a story to document. Her work is grounded in the belief that photographs are about remembering moments + experiences and she makes it her goal is to capture how it felt so those memories can stay fresh for years to come.
A cozy two-day elopement on the West Coast. We started our adventure together in the dreamy mountain town of Mount Shasta before making our way north on Highway 101 to Brookings, Oregon. From there, we ventured out to redwood forests and rocky coves along iconic stretches of Oregon and California.
